Peter Tessier: Analysis of a BLOCKBUSTER- JETS & SABRES
Taking a deeper look at the blockbuster deal between the Jets and Sabers. - Peter.Tessier
I don't get the lottery picks thing at all, but this hurt a bit - which a good trade should. Ultimately, if Kane can bring along (and watch the back of) one of the young centers we're currently slotted to draft this year, it will have been worth it. |

Great job by Winnipeg. Got rid of one head case,Kane, 2 guy's that seemingly always are injured and both are overpaid for what they produce |

I can see why the Sabres wanted Kane, but the Jets did a great job of getting that return back for a guy who everyone in the league knew they had to move and is a risk to bring into your organization. |

I agree - some folks are making this seem like the Jets got away with robbery here. Buffalo is LOADED with high end prospects and a likely candidate for McEichel. They can afford to give away some middling prospects and a 25-30 draft pick for an established top 6 players to play with their young forwards. Thier top 9 the next year could be:
Kane McEhicel Reinhart
Ennis Grigersons Moulson
Desauliers Grigenko Stewart
They also have Zadarov, Ristolainen and McCabe on D. I think they did quite well in this trade as well |

Really? Delauriers Grigorenko Stewart on line 3. Stewart won't be here first off. And you forgot Foligno, Gionta, Pysyk |

And now Bogosian and Pysyk as well on the back end.
I guess if I were assigning values to players, it looks like this in my mind (note: obviously stupidly reductionist and high-level, and the scale tops out based on who's involved):
Myers: 90
Stafford: 40
Armia: 30
Lemieux: 20
Last 1st rounder: 10-20
Total: 190-200
Kane: 90
Bogosian: 70-80
That goalie: 10?
Total: 170-180
The gap in this is the opportunity cost to make this happen now. So, in my mind an overpayment but not terrible. |

And Bogosian
Jets prospects now look like this:
Petan, Morrisey, Ehlers, Comrie, Helleybuck, Lipon, Lodge, Kitchon, Armia and Lemieux plus Burmistrov.
It's a very similar situation in terms of depth but it's when it arrives.
Buffalo needs a full overhaul Jets can be a bit more gradual in their approach |

How is this a win for the Jets? Unless they are planning on winning the cup this year and now they have players in place of the injured Kane.
The team that gets the best player typically ends up 'winning' the trade in the long run. In this case Buffalo got the 2 best players in the deal. |

It's not a lottery pick but the NYI or St. Louis pick. |

Took a guess at the third line - my point is that they didn't have to give away any of their top 5 prospects to land Kane. I think Bogasian and Myers is a wash |

Was referring to the column that suggested there were three lottery picks coming from Buffalo (or some number). |

Minus bogosian for meyers, the Jet won that trade unless Kane suddenly matures. But even so witht he players the Jets got in return they added depth and better type players for the Western conference. Since the Jets moved to the west Kane has been hurt. I think the same will happen to Meyers as he leaves himself vulnerable to open ice hits.
As a Blues fan I like Bogosian for Meyers but the rest I do not like. |

the lowest of the three 1st round picks Buffalo currently had.
I thinking it will be St. Louis pick that goes to the Peg. |

Meyers is good but not great so I would never rate him so high. You will see when he soends lots of time on the IR in the tough west.

He could get dipped in favor of Kane I suppose. It's close-ish. The main point I was aiming for is a slight overpayment. |

I think you are going to see a spike in Myers production now. Bogo was producing the same as Myers surrounded by Buff, Trouba, and Enstrom. Now Myers gets to play with those guys. He is now probably in the ideal position for himself. Being a really strong number 3 on a team. |
